H.G. Hill Middle School Characteristics

H.G. Hill Middle School, located at 150 Davidson Road, is part of the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. A former elementary school, the building was completely remodeled and opened in August of 2000 under the leadership of Mrs. Susan Burns to serve students in grades 5-8. All H.G. Hill Middle School students attend school for 180 days a year. The school day begins promptly at 8:45am and ends at 3:45pm. Dr. Greg Ketteman currently serves as principal. The school at present serves portions of the West Nashville, Bellevue, and North Nashville communities.

Enrollment for the 2000-2001 school year at Hill was projected to be 350; however, as the summer progressed, it became apparent that enrollment would exceed that number. H.G. Hill had enrolled over 550 students. By the end of the 2001-2002 school year, Hill had over 650 students enrolled from a zone encompassing 49.22 square miles. As of this school year, 500 students attend H.G. Hill, and the school zone now encompasses 48.93 square miles.

H.G. Hill Middle School is comprised of 32 classrooms, a music room, computer lab, media center, cafeteria with a stage, gymnasium, multi-purpose room, and formal atrium. The custodial staff works to keep the building in excellent condition. All faculty members are aware of a lockdown procedure, and this procedure has been practiced. The school, which is located next door to Hillwood High School, is also within close proximity of a public library, community center, Boys and Girls Club, and the YMCA.
